HIPHEN IS DEVELOPING THE NEXT GENERATION OF IMAGE PROCESSING SPECIALISTS
Gemma Bonet: Nurturing the Green Revolution Through Data Science and Agriculture
In the heart of Barcelona, a budding scientist, Gemma Bonet, hails from a city rich in culture and history. But Gemma's story unfolds at the intersection of biology, agriculture, and data science, where her passion for the environment meets a drive for innovation.
Gemma embarked on her academic journey at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology. Yet, her insatiable thirst for knowledge led her to further horizons. She pursued a Master's degree in Environmental Agrobiology at the Universitat de Barcelona, a decision that would shape her future in remarkable ways.
Practical experience forms the bedrock of Gemma's academic pursuits. Her journey took her to the grapevine ecophysiology research group at IRTA (Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology), Catalonia's premier agrifood research center. Here, she honed her skills in organizing and executing field and lab experiments, delving deep into data analysis and interpretation.
Gemma's heart lies in agriculture, where she sees an opportunity to make a profound impact in a world grappling with a burgeoning population and the realities of climate change. Her internships at IRTA exposed her to the forefront of agricultural research, under the mentorship of esteemed professors, Dra. Felicidad de Herralde and Dr. Shawn Carlisle Kefauver.
Dra. Felicidad de Herralde's pioneering research focuses on adapting grapevines to the challenges of climate change, a critical endeavor in the world of winemaking. Dr. Shawn Carlisle Kefauver, Gemma's university supervisor, is dedicated to high-throughput plant phenotyping and precision agroforestry, an area of study that merges technology with nature.
Gemma's path converged with Hiphen through an enlightening talk by Alexis Comar, PhD during a Precision Agriculture and Phenotyping class in her master's program. The vision, innovative technology, and profound knowledge that Hiphen brought to the agricultural sector left her inspired. Now, she stands poised to make a difference as she collaborates with project managers in data processing.
Her meticulous and organized nature, coupled with her motivation, brings a unique blend of skills to the team. Her background in plant biology and project organization, coupled with her adeptness in data analysis, positions her as a valuable asset.
Gemma's journey at Hiphen will see her working on various PhenoScale® (drone data processing) projects for clients across the United States and Europe. Her mission: to provide high-quality agronomic traits, driving agricultural progress and efficiency. Gemma is thrilled to be part of a team working toward collective objectives, all within the dynamic realm of an international company.
Beyond her scientific pursuits, Gemma finds solace and inspiration in the great outdoors. Hiking and exploring new places are not just hobbies but gateways to new perspectives.
We are happy to have you onboard! 🚀
